Recognising outstanding contribution and commitment to exemplifying our Values
[Strathclyde Medals 2023 group]
Sixteen individuals and eleven teams had their outstanding contributions to the University recognised at a Strathclyde Medals Ceremony on Friday 17 November, hosted by Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Jim McDonald.
The ceremony, held in The Barony, also saw eight Principal’s Special awards given.

[Queen's Anniversary Prize 2023]The University of Strathclyde has been awarded a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education in recognition of its research and innovation in the field of Photonics – the science of light.
The Award, announced at a reception in St James’ Palace, reflects the University's longstanding and internationally recognised contribution to photonics research and development and its three-decade journey in establishing a globally acknowledged photonics ecosystem.

Information Services are making this change because the platform will shortly be retired by Microsoft.

The student-run Law Clinic<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/1km7qax8ubaw5sb93d38j4/external?email=true&a=5&p=63745210&t=32779908> at the University of Strathclyde has been named a winner in the Herald’s Law Awards of Scotland, in recognition of its work in giving access to justice to communities in the Glasgow area.
The Clinic was named the winner of the Pro Bono award, which it has earned through extensive work in offering free representation and advice to people who are unable to obtain legal help by other means.

Scotland’s former Chief Medical Officer and leading light in global public health, Professor Sir Harry Burns, has been made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
The award was made in recognition of his outstanding contribution to social justice and health at an international conference on health inequalities held at the Royal College on Thursday 16 November.

As well as remembering Sir John’s considerable contribution to Strathclyde’s story, we will reflect on his work across higher education and the public sector, including his time at the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Carnegie Trust, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Trinity College Dublin.
The event will conclude with an opportunity to network with colleagues, friends and members of Sir John’s family over an informal afternoon tea.

Women’s participation in gambling, and their risks of gambling harm are increasingly approximating those of men’s, requiring the development of ‘gendered approaches’ to harm prevention. The overwhelming demand for rehabilitation exceeding its availability prompted researchers at Strathclyde to investigate how the situation can be improved, focusing on the feasibility of employing ‘technology-enriched rehabilitation hubs’ (TERHS) to enable individuals to access the therapy they need at the frequency they require.
