Seonaid McIntosh and Mark Stewart represent Britain

Two Strathclyde community members are representing Team GB at the Paris Olympics.
Alumna Seonaid McIntosh, with an MSc in Biomedical Engineering, competes in the 10m air rifle and 50m rifle events. Seonaid is Britain's most successful rifle shooter and continues to break barriers in her sport.
Joining her is student Mark Stewart, a reserve for Team GB’s Cycling track endurance team. Mark has an impressive track record, including a silver medal at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.

Works get underway this week
[https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/v3files/shard1/85313/2b/876ece6432df4b3ad11e67.png]Work to extend the University’s district energy network into student residences gets underway this week.
The work will see Birkbeck Court and Murray Hall, as well as the Lord Todd Building, connected to the network (which first became operational in 2018) with this delivering an estimated emissions saving of 76 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Fencing has been erected along the pipeline route where excavation work is scheduled to run from July until it is completed by 11 September in advance of Welcome week on 16 September.

Strath Union is closed for three weeks

Strath Union is delighted to announce the appointment of Morna Simpkins (pictured above on the right, with Eva Curran, Strath Union President to the left) as the new Chief Executive Officer.
Morna will be stepping into the role on Monday 2 September, succeeding Manish Joshi, who announced in December 2023 that he would be leaving Strath Union to take on a new position at Strathclyde.

Scottish Universities Insight Institute (SUII) is ceasing operations

In over ten years, SUII supported around a hundred multi-institution, multi-discipline, multi-sector knowledge exchange programmes, aimed at improving policy and practice in Scotland and beyond.
A farewell workshop was held in June to reflect on the lessons learned from SUII’s work and the projects it supported.

[The Golden City’s golden anniversary]The 50th anniversary of a renowned production by the Strathclyde Theatre Group – which was active from the 1970s until the early 2000s and numbered many Strathclyders as members – is to be celebrated in an exhibition<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/ud4nmx0a3azw5sb93d38j4/external?email=true&a=5&p=64592804&t=32709029> at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The Golden City was originally performed at Glasgow Cathedral in August 1974 and then moved to the Edinburgh Festival, where The Guardian declared it "the Festival’s single dramatic sensation".
The organisers of event would like to to hear from anyone who was involved in creating or taking part in The Golden City, or who wishes to assist with the celebration.

The University is part of a four-year project using genomic surveillance to help tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in medicines used for humans and animals.
One of humanity’s biggest threats, it’s predicted that as many as ten million people could die each year as a result of AMR by 2050.
