[BHM 2024]This October, in partnership with Strath Union, the University is celebrating Black History Month – encompassing the history of African, Caribbean and Asian people in this country.

Each week, we’ll be previewing what’s taking place when, highlighting related staff development and training resources and hearing from Strathclyde colleagues about what BHM means to them.

The Strathclyde academic joined seven other members of the group in a meeting with the Work and Pensions Secretary, Liz Kendall MP, for the first time on Monday 9 September, as ministers prepare to launch major reforms this autumn through the Get Britain Working white paper.

In the penultimate lecture of the Town and Gown series, Professor Sir Harry Burns will discuss the science of how our experiences determine how our brains work and how we value ourselves and others.
He will also examine the societal conflicts that divide us — whether between social classes or in the current turmoil in the Middle East., and ultimately ask 'what kind of world could we create if we chose care and compassion over exploitation and violence?'
