Hi Everyone,

We have something a little different for this weeks guest talk. Dr Peter Childs, a physicist working in the biomedical engineering department, will be giving a talk about his fascinating research into using nanovibrations to engineer tissue. This talk will be in JA317 at 5pm on Tuesday 19th November. Please see the link below to sign up!

Abstract: Cell and tissue engineering have long offered the promise to repair damaged parts of the body, but the reality is that research is still a long way from what we see in science fiction. Physicists and engineers have a lot to offer this field in terms of development of new materials and methods for cell analysis and stimulation. This talk will introduce the idea of the cell as a mechanical structure, where applied forces, such as vibration, can alter the growth and behaviour of cells. We will demonstrate how these new engineering techniques are being applied to patients for clinical benefit.

Cheers,

Matt
