The Safety, Wellbeing and Resilience Directorate was delighted to host a SWR ‘Culture of Care’ Strategy launch event in TIC last week.

The Principal, Professor Sir Jim McDonald, opened the event with welcoming words to over 130 colleagues from across the University. SWR Director, Charlotte Cannon introduced the Directorate’s new Culture of Care Strategy, which aims to create an environment where everyone feels safe, secure and supported and in which safety is embedded as a core value.

Out-of-cycle meeting on Monday 9 December

The Forum is continuing to review our existing people-related policies to identify opportunities to enhance them and improve accessibility. It is also keen for the Forum members to support the development of new policies to ensure that our policies continue to be socially progressive and people-orientated.

New support available for disabled applicants

The resource was developed by an autistic recent graduate of Strathclyde via a paid work placement arranged by the Careers & Employability Service and hosted within the Widening Access Team.

Charlotte Lythe, who was formerly Dean of Arts & Social Sciences at the University of Dundee and the daughter of Professor Edgar Lythe, passed away in 2021 – but her Estate has only recently been fully wound up.

The very generous sum she has bequeathed to Strathclyde will support the internal appointment of two Professorial Chairs, the Charlotte Lythe Chair in Humanities and the Edgar Lythe Chair in History, as well three new Chancellor’s Fellows/Lythe Lectureships in the Department of Humanities.

A study which harnesses a pioneering 3D printing technique to create tiny human blood vessel structures could eventually help end the use of animals to test new drugs.

The research team, led by the University of Strathclyde, say that being able to print human tissues at scale to create a more sophisticated drug screening platform could eventually end the use of animals in drug testing, which isn’t always accurate to show what’s happening in the human body.
