[https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/v3files/shard1/85313/bf/79a37f543aa843d1569d57.jpg]This coming Monday (27 January) marks Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD), an international day to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Second World War, alongside the millions of people murdered under Nazi persecution of other groups.
The theme this year is ‘For a Better Future’ and 2025 also marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp complex, and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.
In commemoration of HMD, the University’s Chaplaincy and Access, Equality and Inclusion team will be hosting a Reflection Wall, a quiet space for contemplation and remembrance, where you can pay tribute to the lives lost during the Holocaust and reflect on its significance today.

Strathclyde’s Performance Sports Scholars have made their mark on the global stage with remarkable performances at the Torino 2025 FISU Winter World University Games.
Politics and International Relations student Robyn Munro (pictured centre), a rising star in curling, clinched a gold medal in the mixed doubles – the first-ever gold medal in this event for Team GB, and Mechanical Engineering student Faiz Bashir is already making history as the first Singaporean snow sport athlete .

The CYCJ team have signed up to do the Kiltwalk in April in memory of Ruby – ‘Ruby’s Pacers’ (CYCJ pacers was her step count challenge team name), for Classrooms for Malawi – a charity close to Ruby’s heart – she was there a couple of months ago helping to build a dormitory (and has been many times in the past).

Using a publicly available design from the website OpenFlexure the scientists produced the microscope’s frame – and clear plastic lenses they designed themselves – using low-cost, accessible 3D printers.
