Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year !

Just a reminder that today at 11am (room 8.24) we have our first group meeting of the year. Stuart will talk about quantum transport, Here is an abstract:

"This paper continues the discussion on a local approach to a Markovian Master equation for open many-body quantum systems. In the paper that François presented in a previous group meeting, it was shown that the local approach, while being intuitive and easy to write down the Master equation, leads to violations of thermodynamics for some parameter regimes. So we must use the alternative global approach which does not lead to thermodynamic violations but requires that we diagonalise the system Hamiltonian and limits us to small system sizes.
This paper explains where the violation of thermodynamics within the local approach comes from and goes on to quantitatively compare this approach and the global approach to an exact numerical calculation in a solvable system. The paper finds that for some regimes the local approach closely corresponds to the exact numerical solution and can even perform better than the global approach."

Best,

François
