Subject: QCS Hub virtual seminar, Friday 18th September - "Femtosecond laser processing: Towards the development of solid-state quantum technology."
Hello all,
The QCS Hub’s next virtual seminar is taking place this Friday, 18th September between 1.00pm and 1.30pm.
We’re delighted to be welcoming Benjamin Griffiths to present a talk entitled " Femtosecond laser processing: Towards the development of solid-state quantum technology." Benjamin is a 4th year DPhil Candidate at the University of Oxford in Prof. Jason Smith (Materials) and Prof. Martin Booth's (Engineering) groups, focusing upon the engineering of nitrogen vacancy centres into diamond through femtosecond laser processing.
Abstract:
Colour centres in diamond, such as the nitrogen vacancy centre, are promising candidates for the development of a scalable solid-state quantum device. To make this a reality, we need to be able to reliably engineer high quality centres into the material in regular arrays such that control systems can be built around them. Femtosecond laser processing allows for high levels of control in the fabrication of material due to the non-linear processes involved. Here we present the ability to deterministically engineer high quality colour centres through one-step laser processing with positional accuracies many times beyond the diffraction limit.

As always, video and audio will be disabled for participants but the chat box will be there for you to ask any questions.
We look forward to “seeing” you on Friday.
Best wishes,
Adi
