[UKNC] Nominations for the Foxon Lecturer

Dear All,

The 2021 UKNC meeting is expected to be a virtual meeting given the 
ongoing concerns about the pandemic, and the committee are currently 
finalising arrangements, which we will circulate to you all as soon as 
possible.

In the meantime, we are also beginning to think about invited speakers 
for this meeting.  As is now our tradition, the meeting will include the 
Foxon Lecture, given by a UK or Ireland nitride researcher nominated by 
the community.  Anyone who is an employee or student of a UKNC member 
institution can make a nomination for the Foxon lecturer, and the UKNC 
committee votes on the most appropriate candidate.  Nominees can be at 
any career stage, but we particularly encourage nominations of 
outstanding early career scientists.

If you would like to nominate a nitride researcher for this opportunity, 
please email me by 13th October giving the name of your nominee and a 
short paragraph explaining why they would be a worth candidate to give 
the Foxon Lecture.

The online format of this year's event may present an opportunity to 
invite international speakers who might not usually have time to travel 
to join us.  International speakers are normally nominated by the 
committee, but because of the unusual opportunity which this year's 
event presents, we'd like to give everyone the chance to suggest 
speakers, to broaden the available pool of invitees.  Hence, please do 
feel free to suggests speakers from outside the UK/Ireland to give one 
of our other invited talks.  Again, please let me have their names and a 
short supporting paragraph.
