Dear Dr Papoff,
The IOP is sponsoring the Laser Zone for I’m a scientist (the UK’s
largest online engagement project). If you know anyone who may be
interested in taking part in this high profile science communication
event please pass on the details below.
Best wishes

We're looking for Laser physicists who cut through the rest of the pack
to take part in I'm a Scientist, Get me out of here! this June.
The IOP is sponsoring the Laser Zone from 25th June - 6th July and we're
looking for any scientists that work with lasers.
Apply to take part by Monday 28th May via:
http://imascientist.org.uk/scientist-apply.
I'm a Scientist is an X Factor style competition for scientists, where
students are the judges. You talk online with students on the I'm a
Scientist website, answering the students' questions and talking with
them in live text chats, and the students vote for the scientist to win
£500 to spend on science communication.
Everything happens on the web, so you can join in without leaving your
desk. The event runs over the 2 weeks from June 25th - July 6th. There
will be around one hour of live text chats each day, and two hours
answering questions in the evening, although this will vary depending on
how busy the zones are. It's a unique, fun way of developing
communication skills, gaining a fresh perspective on research, and
finding out what young people think about science and the role of
scientists. Anyone from PhD students to professors can take part.
To apply to take, fill in the application form by Monday 28th May:
http://imascientist.org.uk/scientist-apply.
When you apply you'll be asked to fill in a 1 sentence summary of your
work - make this interesting and understandable to 13/14 year olds, as a
panel of students will then select the 5 scientists to take part.
Also available is a short clip made by the winner of the Quantum Zone
last June about what it is all about:
