Dear All,

Some PG students (plus some other volunteers like me) are coordinating an optics themed outreach stand on June 16th at Kelvingrove museum, and we wondered whether we could seek your suggestions for interesting optics related trivia for a background poster board at the event.

If you can suggest any eye-catching one line statements for inclusion then they would be much appreciated. We are hoping that some will highlight work being undertaken here or in the Glasgow area, while some will be more general.

Examples could be along the lines of:

"Strathclyde scientists make laser pulses with the power of ....(something awe inspiringly large)....to .....",
"We use ultrafast lasers to see things happening on a timescale of a thousand millionths of a millionth of a second...",
"We use light to cool clouds of atoms to the coldest temperatures in Scotland...",
"We are developing such and such a medical application..."

etc etc.... i.e. large numbers, small numbers, applications. More general trivia would also be welcome - e.g. on the history of optics, local heroes, or applications.

Thanks,

Shash
