Dear All,
Following the June Examination Board one of the External Examiners requested that we modify the project marking forms. This is being undertaken by myself and Erling and once completed the revised forms will be circulated around the Department. One change requested is the separate of the "effort" and "initiative" components of the supervisor's mark.
To give an indication of the expected student effort we should bear in mind that the projects are weighted at 40 credits, and this corresponds to 1/3 of the credit weighting for the academic year. In light of this we should expect the students to spend about 1/3 of their working week on the project, ~1.5 days per week (bearing in mind the Principal's recent email about Wednesday afternoons). We should note that the credit weighting is a measure of the student effort and includes all the things the student must do to gain the credit for the class e.g literature survey, background reading, oral presentation, project viva and formal report preparation.
Nigel
