Dear All,

Please see the attached flyer for a publication writing challenge
organised by the Faculty. |
I believe that those who went on the summer grant writing challenge
found it very useful, and this is in the same spirit.

Regards
John

Hi John and Rob,

First of all, many thanks for your support for the Summer Grant Challenge initiative. The format -with an emphasis on peer-to-peer support and provision of deadlines with some guidance and a tangible output at the end- was well received by participants. The first indications suggest that the initiative made a substantial difference to grant submissions over the summer (it is of course to early to see if it also had an effect on success rates!).

We now ask for your help in advertising a next University-wide initiative, following a similar format, but aimed at maximizing the quality (and quantity) of research articles submitted during this autumn. We would like to encourage as many members of staff as possible to join the Autumn PUBLICATION CHALLENGE (please see attached advert for details).

Please note that this is NOT another paper writing course- it is aimed at those who have material ready for publication and have experience in paper writing. The idea is to help and encourage academic staff (at all levels, this could include senior PhD students and postdocs) to write their papers while taking advantage of peer support and feedback and get papers submitted by Christmas, by taking advantage of peer-to-peer support, self- learning and some low level guidance.

The scheme will take place over a 10 week period during October-December and will have three intermediate deadlines and peer-to-peer meetings with some guidance.

Later this week all staff will receive an email with details about this initiative and we ask you to promote this activity to staff who might benefit from it.

If you would like more information or have any comments please get in touch. We do plan to spend a few minutes on this at the next FRAKE (22nd October).

Many thanks,

Rein
