Hi Everyone
Further to the Departmental Committee meeting yesterday, I would like to advise staff with research grants to ensure that they are aware of the core elements of their funding, in particular, equipment and the rules associated with making large purchases.
Recently, issues have arisen with certain spending being disallowed due to the rules of the funding bodies. It is important that you understand the terms and conditions of your grant to ensure that you can fully utilise your funds without incurring any nasty surprises at the end of the contract. It is also important to be aware of any changes to the rules and to make sure you are uptodate with these and how they affect your current grants.
Research Contracts (Finance) are there to assist, however, my advice is that if unsure whether a purchase, particularly a large purchase, is acceptable you (or me should you wish) should contact the funding body directly to secure their authorisation in writing (email would suffice).
Many thanks
Kirsten
