Dear All,

Dave Rogers of Nanovation is visiting on Thursday the 20th of June.
He will give a seminar entitled "Hybridisation of ZnO and GaN Thin Films & Nanostructures for Novel LED & Solar Cell Applications".

Time: 11.00 am, Thursday the 20th of June

Duration: 40 minutes
Location: SUPA grid room, JA8.13

Abstract
Over the past 10 years there has been an enormous surge in research into ZnO in the form of thin films, bulk crystals and nanostructures. After giving an overview of these efforts, the perspectives for the hybridisation of ZnO and GaN in the development of novel LED and solar cell structures will be presented through examples from the work of the start-up, Nanovation (www.nanovation.com<http://www.nanovation.com/>).

Biography
Dr Rogers Rogers received his PhD in Physics from Glasgow in 1990. His initial research career was involved with the growth and characterization of magnetic materials for data storage applications. This was, first of all, at Philips Research Laboratories (Netherlands) then Carnegie Mellon University (US) for 2 years and then Nippon Telephone and Telegraph (Japan) for 3 years. After his post-docs he was hired as a project manager of a superconductor university spin-out company based in Paris. When this company folded, in 1999, he went on to co-found his own start-up, Nanovation, which develops, produces and commercialises ZnO thin films and nanostructures for opto-electronic applications. In parallel with the start-up activity, Dr. Rogers acquired an MBA and has held academic positions as an Associate Professor at the Technical University of Troyes (France), a visiting Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology and a lecturer at St. Andrews. He publishes widely, is a frequent invited speaker and organizes a number of international conferences.

Regards,

Carol
