[Academic] PH450/550 projects early warning

Dear all
the student numbers in 2013/14 classes are not quite finalised but we have a good idea on the basis of recent exam board outcomes: our continuing rapid growth has consequences for project provision in the 4th and 5th year.
In 2012/13, we coped with an unprecedented 50% increase in demand for projects. Next year the percentage increase will be somewhat smaller but the number of extra projects required will still be large. In addition, one third of projects offered by staff are not taken up by students. This results in an unequal share of the load when staff agree to 'double up' on projects from the booklet, or even invent new projects in a hurry. (For this relief, much thanks.) Remarkably, half of all the 67 projects offered last year originated from just 8 members of staff.
To be comfortable, we need to be able to offer ~90 project titles in 2013/14. With approximately 30 staff, this averages to 3 per member. I'm therefore requesting all staff to to demonstrate their commitment by sending me 3 project titles as a matter of urgency. (The aforementioned Weighty Eight already exceed this target, but are very welcome to suggest other titles if they wish.)
The deadline for the early warning exercise is Graduation Day, 27 June. Check the list below and if you don't have 3 titles, send me something new by that date. We expect to have project descriptions in place for the students arriving in mid-September, so that part of the exercise can wait. But I need the titles now.
