Dear Heads

Apologies for the one day delay in forwarding this e-mail, but we
Faculty Managers were seeking clarification.

If a member of staff from each dept is able to attend this event,
despite short notice, that would be v helpful. Please let Yvonne Brown
know the name of your dept's rep (if any), with a copy to Christine.

I'm sorry that I'm unable to assist with identifying which members of
academic staff would be most appropriate other than to highlight the
topics for discussion, i.e.

What is the vision for information systems, services and capabilities
that will best support the realisation of the University's strategic
objectives?

§ How is the delivery of the University's teaching, learning, research
and knowledge exchange is likely to shift in the future; and at what pace?

§ How do the University's information services and capabilities need to
change to be able to adapt to and support these changes?

§ What are current and future information needs of: students; academic
and service departments; research facilities, groups and partnerships;
and knowledge exchange partners?

§ Are there broader environmental drivers for change, such as policy,
demographic, technological, legal or regulatory?

§ What are the enablers of change; and what are challenges, constraints
and barriers to change?

§ What can we learn from leading edge practice in other universities or
other sectors?

In relation to the final point, it might be helpful to send along some
new(er) colleagues ...

I must also apologise for the "scattergun approach" here. If there had
been a little more notice, I might have been able to co-ordinate to
ensure representation across the Uni's strategic priorities.

Sent on behalf of Dr Stuart Brough, Director, Information Services

Dear Faculty Managers,

As you may know, the University is devising an *Information Development
Framework* (IDF). This is a set of strategic proposals setting out how
we will transform our information systems, services and capabilities
over the next five years to help realise the ambition of becoming a
leading technological university. The IS team, supported by our
strategic technology partner Capita, has been consulting across the
University with students, staff and management over the summer to help
devise the information strategy. One of the Deans suggested that it
would be beneficial to also consult collectively with the four Faculty
Managers and academic staff to seek your input into this key University
strategy.

We would like to invite you and representatives from among your
Faculty's academic staff (perhaps three to five colleagues depending on
availability and interest) to a *_focus group discussion on Tuesday
13^th August, 10am-12 noon in Collins Room 1_. *The discussion will be
facilitated by Helen Baird from Capita and Catherine McMillan, Assistant
Director, Information Services.

The purpose of this session will be to engage with Faculty Managers and
academic staff to help shape the University's information strategy.
Co-designing the strategy in this way will help ensure its alignment
with the University's education, research, knowledge exchange,
internationalisation and business strategies. Additional information,
including topics for discussion, is included in the attached briefing note.

Please could you let Yvonne Brown (yvonne.brown at strath.ac.uk
<mailto:yvonne.brown at strath.ac.uk>) know if you are able to attend on
this date, and which academic staff from your faculty may also be
available and wish to attend? Please also let Yvonne know if you
require any further information or clarification. _

Many thanks,

*Dr Stuart Brough*

*Director, Information Services *
