Subject: Public Engagement Opportunity - Nuffield Bursary Scheme

Hi All,

Some of you will be aware of the Nuffield Bursary Scheme for school pupils who are entering their final year at school (S6). The scheme provides STEM placements over the summer vacation in industry or university and aims to inspire the next generation of scientists.

Strathclyde has been an active participant in the scheme for a number of years particularly in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and Physics however Frances Cowan who co-ordinates the scheme in Scotland is keen to find additional placements in other areas of science and engineering e.g. mathematics, renewable energy, naval architecture, computer science.

Placements can provide an opportunity for PhD students to supervise pupils on placements and can help to cement further links with the schools involved. It would be great if we could include the attached information on the Public Engagement portal once it is up and running and also spread the word to others who may be interested in getting involved in offering a placement.

Regards,

June
