Dear All,
The following note concerns the University's submission to its Enhancement-led Institutional Review (ELIR) and the possibility of some of us being asked to participate in visits by external reviewers. I put a hard copy of the submission documents in the JA8.25 common room.
Regards
Rob

Dear Colleagues
As you are already well aware, the University has for some time been preparing for its Enhancement-led Institutional Review (ELIR). A key component of the ELIR process is the two external visits made to Strathclyde by a team of external reviewers and as these will be taking place during this semester. We would like to take this opportunity to remind you, and ask you to ensure that your staff and students are aware, of the nature of the process and the possibility of involvement.
The ELIR is conducted by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for Scotland every 4-5 years and is a significant and important review method for Universities and Higher Education Institutions. The ELIR focuses upon the University’s strategic approach and arrangements in place to support the academic standards of awards and the continuous enhancement of the student learning experience for all students.
The University’s review is conducted via two separate visits (termed Part 1 and Part 2) which take place on the following dates:
• Part 1 visit - Wednesday 5 – Thursday 6 February 2014
• Part 2 visit - Monday 10 March – Friday 14 March 2014
During both visits, the ELIR review team will request to meet with a range of staff, students and student representatives. The QAA will request specific staff profiles for each meeting (e.g. a group of recently appointed staff) and will notify us of their selected profiles and areas of focus for the meetings no later than Friday 31 January 2014, for the Part 1 visit. We will disseminate this information as soon as this becomes available. At the end of the Part 1 visit, we will be notified of selected staff profiles for Part 2 visit meetings and will disseminate this information accordingly. Please note, further groups of staff and students may be asked to meet with the ELIR review team at short notice. We would therefore request you and your Faculty colleagues retain Calendar availability as much as possible throughout the visit dates to accommodate any such requests.
We expect that the focus of the review team during the Part 1 visit will be on Quality Assurance processes and outcomes and the emphasis will move towards Enhancement in Part 2.
In advance of these visits, the ELIR review team will have read the University’s ELIR documentation which was prepared and submitted in November 2013 following extensive consultation via the University’s ELIR Steering and Working Groups. This comprised the Reflective Analysis (RA), Case Studies (CS) and supporting evidence within the Advance Information Set (AIS). This documentation is available for viewing at: https://moss.strath.ac.uk/eduportal/qualityenhancement/ELIR2014/default.aspx. Hard copies of the Reflective Analysis and Case Studies were circulated at the Leadership Group meeting on Monday 13 January 2014.
For further details on the visit arrangements, format and preparation; please review the attached visit guidance document.
I would appreciate if you can please ensure this email is circulated to all staff within your Department.
If you have any questions or comments, please email educationenhancement at strath.ac.uk<mailto:educationenhancement at strath.ac.uk>
Thank you for your cooperation.
Professor Kenneth Miller
Vice Principal
