The assumption that this picture is from Physics and that we by implication somehow don't take laser safety seriously seems to be incorrect.
Maybe you should have checked this first?

Hi Thorsten

A colleague brought this impressive photo to my attention, which I believe was taken in Physics and appears on the University webpages.  Apart from the user wearing safety glasses, I would be grateful if you would comment on what other safety measures were taken on this occasion, particularly in view of the open beams and protection of the photographer involved. Also, do glasses such as these usually bear the CE marking permanently on the lens?
