Dear Colleagues
Following my email on the 18th November I have had further communication from the Carnegie Trust regarding the Carnegie/Caledonian PhD Scholarship scheme . Can you please forward the information below and the attached document to academics within your department. Strathclyde's internal deadline for nominations is the 9th February 2015.
The Nominations will be reviewed by independent subject advisers recruited outside the Scottish academic community and representing different areas of research; they have been selected on the basis of their expertise in reviewing and of their in-depth knowledge of the subject field.
The advisers will review the nominations according to 4 assessment criteria:
1. Candidate's academic ability and potential for research
2. Originality, significance and feasibility of the proposed project
3. Fit between the candidate, project and research environment
4. Overall quality of the application
A sample of the assessment form they will use is attached to this email.
Using the comments and scores of the advisers, the Trust will identify a shortlist of candidates whose nominations will be further reviewed by the Selection Panel. The Panel includes 5 senior academics recruited from within the Scottish academic community, as well as the Trust Secretary & Treasurer.
Best wishes
Shona

Dear Colleagues
I am pleased to announce the launch of the Carnegie/Caledonian PhD Scholarship scheme 2015/16 for students with 1st class Honours degrees from a Scottish University. I would be grateful if you could arrange for this scheme to be advertised to potential PhD students and supervisors across your department/school. The University of Strathclyde can submit five applications and the internal deadline is the 9th February 2015. The Nomination form and Statement of Institutional support form are attached.
Once the students have been selected internally, the prospective supervisors are responsible for submitting the nomination form, statement of institutional support form, and academic transcripts on behalf of their student. These must be submitted online through the Trust's website by 28th February 2015. Multiple submissions for the same student by different universities or academics are not permissible.
