To 4th Year Project Supervisors:
Please remind your students that the literature review and project plan is due next Friday 6/10. By this stage, they should have some idea as to the background, previous work, and a conception of what the project entails. They should be encouraged to explore the literature beyond just what you may have set them. As part of the project management training, they should also come up with a brief project plan as well as a risk register. I attach the guidance that they have been given on the latter. They should also consult the appendix of the Project Booklet [1].
The literature review is not formally assessed but it is important that they approach this conscientiously and is an early indication of student engagement. You may want to discuss at your next supervision (if you have not already) what is expected of them. Much of it should be useful material for the introductory chapters of the final report. It is also a way of getting them to start writing early.
If your allocated student has not yet been in contact to arrange project meetings, then please let me know to chase them up. If your student keeps missing meetings or not responding to messages, then also let me know.
