The recent round of cuts in journal subscriptions has left the faculty with some wiggle room. The suggestion is to expand our acquisition of Nature journals. Please see below for the details.

Thank you for looking at our journal subscriptions. We have managed to make savings across the Faculty, both due to cancellations and journals moving to other providers. I heard from Acquisitions yesterday that Immunology and Cell Biology has moved from Springer Nature to Wiley and is included as part of a wider package so that is an additional saving:

I’m not sure if we will have to trim our portfolio more thoroughly next year, but it is good practice to consider underperforming journals every year.

In the meantime, I’ve been informed by Acquisitions that we could get a new title, given the savings we have made this year. I’d suggest a Nature title, if we want to go ahead and do this. The main titles that we have been interested in recently are:

•        Nature Catalysis
•        Nature Chemical Biology
•        Nature Methods
•        Nature Neuroscience
•        Nature Reviews Chemistry

I’ve attached two spreadsheets.

•        The first one showing alternative access (Nature Methods and Nature Chemical Biology are available with an embargo), you have seen already.
•        The second one has prices for Nature titles and also shows denial statistics. The green column shows the price to add it to our collection.

* Can you let me know by Friday 24th November 2017, which Nature title you would like to add. Or if you have an alternative suggestion, please let me know as well.
