Dear All,

Following on from Thorsten's email below, we are short on the number of projects needed for the MSc students. Please can you send any project proposals to me by Friday 2nd March (form attached) or please indicate which of the projects from last year can be offered again.

Thank you to those who have already sent project descriptions.

Many thanks,
Melanie

Subject: [Academic] Reminder: MSc project proposal, INPUT REQUIRED TILL Feb 20

Hi

Can I remind you to send project proposals to Melanie till the 20th, please.

If you promised a tailored project to a student, please let us know and supply the information on the form so that the student has a reference point to start from.

Thanks

Thorsten

Dear All,

As indicated in December, we need projects for the MSc students and the selection process should start end of February. We need 22 projects.

Rough indications are given below.

Nanoscience course: 6 (of which I expect to be 4-5 in chemistry)

other interest in nanoscience / solid state: 4 (one explicit call for solar cells)

experimental quantum optics: 1

photonics/optics (which can be in EQOP): 6

theoretical quantum optics/quantum information: 2-3

plasma: 2

plasmas with astrophysical relevance: 1

The project will run full time (60 credits) from beginning of June till end of Aug:

Project start: 04/06/2018

Report hand-in: 21/08/2018

Assessment: 27/08 - 31/08/2018 (main), 03/09 - 07/09/2018 (latecomers)

The students were encouraged to talk to potential supervisors already and some of them might have done so. The selection process is as indicated.

1. If a student and a supervisor negotiated a tailored project, this is theirs.

2. For the other students, a booklet with the suggested projects is distributed end of February from which they give three choices. The projects are then attributed prioritized via semester 1 performance. In doubt, a Nanoscience student will have preference to get a project in the Nanoscience division before Applied Physics/Optical Technology students.

Please forward your project propositions to Melanie till the 20th February (form attached) or indicate to her which of the projects from last year can be offered again.

Thanks for your help.

On behalf of Prof Ackemann
