Hi Everyone,
Please see the information below on presentations and a general grant-writing workshop being organised by RKES and led by a US funding expert. These are on 4th+5th June, and might be of interest to a number of people.
Please note that on 4th June in the afternoon there is a time clash with our exam board meeting, but this should be okay for the day-long workshop on 5th June.
Best regards,
Andrew

Subject: US funding consultant visit: 4 & 5 June
Dear colleagues,
Research and Knowledge Exchange services are delighted to announce that US funding expert, Robert Porter, PhD, of Grant-Winners Seminars, will be delivering three workshops at Strathclyde on 4th & 5th June. The sessions are relevant to colleagues applying for funding, and for staff supporting the preparation of applications. The full day workshop on 5th June “Writing Successful Grants”, covers the basic principles of writing a successful proposal to any funder (not just US funders). Please click on the links below to register your place.
Monday 4th June
U.S funding opportunities for International Researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences (09.30 – 12.30)
This session will cover a number of funding sources of particular interest to disciplines broadly grouped in the humanities and social sciences. Specific grant programs will be reviewed, together with eligibility requirements and funding levels. Additionally, participants will be guided to numerous opportunities posted by private foundations.

US funding opportunities for international researchers (13.30 – 16.30)
This session will focus on the eligibility requirements, funding levels, proposal development guides and submission deadlines for key US funders supporting Science and Technology research, such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Defense (DoD).

Tuesday 5th June
Writing Successful Grants (09.30 – 12.30 and 13.30 – 16.30)
This full day interactive workshop will cover the basic principles of how to write a winning grant proposal, from the phrasing of a compelling research theme to the actual construction of the proposal itself. Common pitfalls that can lead to early rejection of good ideas are reviewed, matched with practical strategies for better writing. There will be a number of writing exercises interspersed throughout the morning and afternoon sessions. The writing exercises will focus on applications to US funders, however, this workshop covers the principles of writing successful proposals to any funder.
*You must attend both AM and PM sessions*
