Dear All,
At the 5th year feedback meeting last week the students expressed some concern about whether they will have completed the experimental work by 3rd December when they are supposed to submit a draft report. I have sent them the below message to allay their worries.
Nigel
"Dear All,
At the 5th year feedback meeting last week, a few students expressed concerns about not having completed their lab work before submitting the report on 3rd December. Please can I assure you that there is no expectation that you will be required to have completed your experimental work by 3rd December. The purpose of the draft report is to allow your supervisor to give you feedback about whether you are "on the right lines" with respect to the report. The report is to be written as a paper and should give you the opportunity to highlight what you consider is the key result from your work and compare this with existing work. The report should not be a blow-by-blow description of the work that you have done through the semester.
Also please note that the talk is only worth 10 % of the final mark and is scheduled now to give you the chance to start to pull together your thoughts and so help with the writing of the report."
