Subject: Carnegie PhD Scholarships 2019
SENT ON BEHALF OF DEPUTY ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL (R&KE), PROFESSOR BILLY KERR
Dear Colleagues
I am pleased to announce the launch of the Carnegie/Caledonian PhD Scholarships 2019 for students with (or expecting to obtain) a 1st Class Honours degree from a Scottish University. Accordingly, I would now be grateful if you could arrange for this scheme to be advertised to potential PhD students and supervisors across your Department/School. The Application Template and Scholarship Regulations documents (attached) detail what is required for the internal (Strathclyde) stage of the process. Specifically, at this stage, applicants/academics are being asked to complete only Sections 1, 2, and up to and including 3c of the Application Template, and submit this, along with full academic transcripts showing the student's undergraduate academic record to date, for the internal Faculty/University adjudication process. Those chosen to go forward at University level would then complete the full application, including the Statement of Institutional Support, for final submission to The Carnegie Trust.
The University of Strathclyde can submit up to 5 applications and individual Faculties will be limited to a maximum of 5 nominations; accordingly, the deadline for applicants/academics to submit their application to RKES (rkes-res at strath.ac.uk<mailto:rkes-res at strath.ac.uk>) is the 23rd January 2019. RKES will then interact directly with Faculty colleagues in order to have Faculty nominations confirmed by 31st January 2019.
Once the students have been selected internally at University level, the nominated applicants and associated academic supervisors should work with their VDRs in order to tune the applications towards final submission. Prospective supervisors should work with the student applicants in order to complete the on-line nomination; RKES colleagues will work with the academic supervisor(s) to obtain University sign-off. The appropriate files must be submitted online through the Trust's website by 5pm on the 28th February 2019. Multiple submissions for the same student by different universities or academics are not permissible. Further information can be found at: https://www.carnegie-trust.org/schemes/postgraduate-schemes/carnegie-caledonian-scholarships.html
Many thanks, in advance, for your assistance with this important studentship process.
Regards,
Billy
