Subject: PH450: Viva Schedule, DRAFT v0.2
Please find attached the next iteration of the viva timetable. Changes are highlighted in Yellow. I hope I have incorporated the requested changes but let me know if there are still problems with the scheduling.
I hope to release a draft schedule to the students tomorrow. Once it is relatively stable I will then allocate rooms. My first assumption will be that vivas will take place in the Chair's office. If your office in unsuitable for this, please inform me and I shall try to book a suitable room.
Thanks,
Daniel.

Subject: PH450: Viva Schedule DRAFT
To All Academic and Research Staff,
Please check to see if you have been allocated any student projects to examine and inform me of any viva availability issues as soon as possible. Thanks to those who responded to my previous request and apologies if I have made any mistakes in the scheduling. I aim to send a draft schedule to the 4th year students beginning of next week.
Notes:
- Due to the high number of students (83) this year, most academic and senior research staff have been allocated 5 or 6 projects. I have tried to spread them out as evenly as possible.
- Most vivas are scheduled a few days after a student's last exam, a few have been brought forward due to availability issues.
- The times are provisional, but let me know if I've double booked you for a viva slot. Some adjustment of dates can be accommodated but should be agreed by the examining committee (Supervisor, Independent Marker, Chair).
- In order to spread the marking load evenly, there are some cross-division allocations. Students have been instructed, "Your reader will not necessarily be an expert in the subject so do not assume too much background knowledge." Projects are intended to be read by a non-specialist reader, it should be possible to assess the project according to the marking criteria as indicated on the marking sheet. The examination committee collectively should have sufficient competence to examine the project report and examine the student.
Daniel
PH450 Project Co-ordinator.
