[Academic] PH450 Viva Schedule 2.0 Ver2.0 with Room Allocations, Marking Instructions

First vivas are scheduled for Monday 15th April so please check your allocated vivas dates and times.

The latest version of the 4th year project vivas is attached. I have added a preliminary assignment of rooms. In most cases, this will be the Chair's office. In some cases for convenience, I have allocated either the supervisor or independent's office, or else a spare meeting room. The vivas scheduled in the TIC are still to be arranged, this will be updated next week.

Let me know if the allocated room/office is not suitable as I shall try to find an alternative, but as exams are also taking place at the same time, this may be difficult.

Marking/Viva Instructions

-          I have placed marking sheets in the idrive folder: \Science\Physics\project\2018_2019\PH450Reports

-          Primary Supervisors should complete the form PH450_SupervisorMark.pdf

-          All markers (Primary, Independent, Chair) should complete form PH450_ProjectReportMark.pdf

-          Only one copy of the form PH450_VivaMark.pdf needs to be completed (i.e. by the Chair at the viva)

-          Projects should be marked independently prior to the viva. At the viva, the markers should compare their marks and if there is a greater than 10 mark spread, then the examining committee should discuss the reasons for such a disparity. They should then either moderate the marks for consistency, else the Chair (with input from the other two markers) needs to submit a short explanation for the reasons of the disparity.

-          The viva slots are 45 minutes long, of which the student should be examined for 30 minutes, allowing 15 minutes for discussion between the examiners prior and after the oral examination. A single viva marking form is completed and signed.

-          The Chair should collect the forms for the Supervisor Mark, Report Marks, and the Viva Mark return to myself or Audrey as soon as practical after the viva.

-          Refer to PH450_MarkingGuidelines.pdf when marking reports.
