‘Student Mental Wellbeing and Teaching during the Covid-19 Pandemic’ - Webinar

Registration is open for the second professional development event of the QAA Collaborative Cluster on Student Mental Wellbeing and the curriculum<https://www.enhancementthemes.ac.uk/current-enhancement-theme/student-engagement-and-demographics/student-mental-wellbeing> hosted by Glasgow Caledonian University. This webinar aims to build on the success of the first event held in January 2020<https://www.enhancementthemes.ac.uk/news-events/news/student-mental-wellbeing-event>.

The swift move from learning in the classroom, to learning online, has had multiple consequences for both staff and students.

This webinar will explore:

  *   Some of the early evidence about how students are experiencing the impact of the Covid-19 crisis
  *   Some principles that may support teaching, learning and wellbeing during this crisis
  *   Some myths about students and online learning that can have negative impacts on you and your students
  *   The importance of staff wellbeing
  *   Reasons to be hopeful

The webinar will provide opportunities for questions, discussion around experiences so far and sharing of good practice.

Speaker - Gareth Hughes, University of Derby & Student Minds

Back by popular demand following the January event, Gareth Hughes is a psychotherapist and Research Lead – Student Wellbeing at the University of Derby. Gareth also works for Student Minds and was the lead author of the University Mental Health Charter. He also led the development of The Wellbeing Thesis, an online resource for PGR students. Gareth is currently leading an Office for Students funded project to produce guidance, for academics, on developing curriculum that supports wellbeing and learning. His new book for students, Be Well, Learn Well is due to be published in October by Macmillan. He is a Principal Fellow of the HEA and tutor for the Human Givens College.
