Dear All
This relates to supervisors of PGR students.
Kind regards
Audrey
===============================================================================================
Dear Colleagues,
Please see below an email sent to our Doctoral Students. As the campus is gradually reopened, supervisors may find that their PhD students start to get in touch to ask for advice. This should extend to working with students to identify opportunities to mitigate the medium to longer term impact of Covid on their research.
Regards,
Rob

Subject: Launch of University's Return & Resume Hub
Dear Strathclyde Doctoral Students,
Ahead of our meet up next week, I thought it would be helpful to share a few updates with you.
As the Scottish Government have started the gradual easing of lock down and moved to the introduction of some phase 3 relaxation of lock down measures, I thought you would find it helpful to have more detail on the Scottish Government's plans and so have attached their latest update for your information.
As I have mentioned previously, you may also be reassured to know that the work of the Return & Resume Development Group (RRDG), Chaired by the University's Secretary and Compliance Office, Dr Veena O'Halloran is making good progress in its assessment of all aspects of a gradual and safe return to campus operation. As well as Professor Scott MacGregor (Vice Principal) and the Deans from both Science (Professor Iain Stewart) and Engineering (Professor Atilla Incecik), I too sit on this group and have been representing our doctoral community during discussions. Others on the group include Steven Wallace (the University's Chief Financial Officer, Gordon Scott (HR Director) and Manish Joshi (CEO, the Student Union).
The remit of RRDG is to use a complex systems engineering approach to coordinate the planning and preparation for a staged return to work which is informed by the Scottish Government's route map out of lock down. Central to decisions and recommendations offered by RRDG is the overarching principle of ensuring the safety, health and wellbeing of all of our staff and students. RRDG is coordinating a large programme of work streams each with their own project lead and team which include:
Campus Catering
Campus Readiness (Estates)
Communications
HR/Ways of Working
IT & AV Readiness
Library Readiness
Project Delivery (Estates)
Research Readiness
Residences Readiness
Safeguarding & Compliance
Security Services (Estates)
Space Planning (Estates)
Student Experience
Student Registration & Induction
Third Party Organisations
Travel Planning
Video Suites
Information on our preparation activity can be found on our new Return and Resume Hub which in now live (here<https://www.strath.ac.uk/coronavirus/returnandresume/>). As new information and guidance material will be added regularly, I encourage you to routinely look at the hub as pages will be updated as we move through the return phases. Likewise, you may find it helpful to routinely review all information relating to the University's response to and advice relating to the impact of Coronavirus which is available here<https://www.strath.ac.uk/>. This information is also regularly updated with new guidance and advice as this becomes available. As these webpages are an effective means by which we can keep all students and staff up to date can I please ask you to be proactive and regularly review these.
I understand and appreciate that as we are now gradually moving out of lock down you will have many questions. I hope this email together with the Return and Resume Hub mentioned go some way towards answering some of these. I am sure you may still have questions and when we meet next Thursday I will be happy to answer as many of those as I can. Can I also recommend that you stay in touch with your supervisor who can also advise you on specific timings - as it is impossible for the all departments across the University to open at the same time, you should anticipate that some of you may be able to get access to research facilities, for example, laboratories, sooner than others who, for example do not require such access. We will ensure we provide wherever possible, the support that needed to allow you all to engage with and progress your research in a manner that adheres to our principles of safety, health and wellbeing. If you have any questions about this please do ask your supervisor for advice.
Please be assured that in all the preparations we are making for a gradual and safe reopening of our campus, our doctoral community, like our undergraduate and post graduate taught communities as well as all our staff are being considered within our decision making. As and when firm details about decisions relating to our doctoral community are taken, these will be widely communicated with supervisors and students - for this reason, please do maintain regular contact with your supervisors.
Finally, I do hope this email and the information it contains and also signposts you to are helpful. I look forward to meeting with you if you are able to join next week's Virtual Meet Up which is taking place 3-4pm (UK time) on Thursday 23rd July - a zoom invite has already been circulated to all doctoral students.
I very much hope you and your families are all very well,
Very best wishes,
Eleanor
