Dear all,
to help with the organisation of the Physics Society online event on Monday 14th September 2020 at 11am, here is a copy of the message that I sent to the students of group 1 and the other PDAs.
For group 1, I have been volunteered to be the “lead” while the other two PDAs will be participating to the games. I hope that the “lead” of these events have been selected for all groups. The “lead”
should schedule a Zoom meeting for Monday 14th September 2020 at 11am and then email the students of the group the details of the Zoom event (see below).
The email addresses of the students of the different tutorial groups are available in the document:

Hope that this is useful.
Best wishes,
gian-luca

Dear All,
As I mentioned in my e-mail yesterday about your new PDA students, the Physics Society have designed a short zoom social event to help us to welcome the new students to the Department. This is particularly important this year as not only is it the first time that they will meet with their PDAs, but it is also the first time that they will get to meet with some other students from their year. The expectation is that they will work within these student “bubbles” throughout the year.
This event should take place at 11am on Monday 14th September and last no more than 1 hour. I have attached the instructions and powerpoint produced by the Physics Society to make this event as easy as possible for you to run. As you will see, they have suggested a couple of simple games and also a time to chat. They have also suggested a number of times that these games can be played, but this is at your discretion and you can choose to do more or less as feels most appropriate on the day. The material should be straightforward, but it’s helpful to have pre-read it before the meeting and to include the names of the participants on the powerpoint where appropriate.
In general, there will be 6 students per group, corresponding to 3 personal development advisers. There is also one group for the new 2nd & 3rd year students. A copy of the tutorial groups, together with student e-mails, is available on the i-drive: https://webdrive.strath.ac.uk/idrive/Science/Physics/PDA-FirstYear/PDAs_20-21 - 1stYear-tutorial-groups-mod.pdf<https://webdrive.strath.ac.uk/idrive/Science/Physics/PDA-FirstYear/PDAs_20-21%20-%201stYear-tutorial-groups-mod.pdf>.
Ideally all of the PDAs for the group should participate (one as “lead” and the other two taking part in the games) but if you are unable to take part can you please co-ordinate with the other PDAs so that there is at least one academic in each group. One PDA per group should be responsible for setting up a zoom session for the group and sharing the details with the members of the group.
I know that everyone is very busy at this time of year, now more than ever, but I hope you will appreciate the need for something like this and be able to take part. In the, hopefully unlikely, event that none of the PDAs in a group is available from 11am-12pm on Monday 14th September, please could you see if you have an RA that could help out, or let me know as soon as possible so that we can ensure no students are left stranded.
If you have any questions about the social event, David Lowit david.lowit.2018 at uni.strath.ac.uk<mailto:david.lowit.2018 at uni.strath.ac.uk> and Arthur McIntosh morgan.mcintosh.2018 at uni.strath.ac.uk<mailto:morgan.mcintosh.2018 at uni.strath.ac.uk> are happy to answer them, and I would like to extend my thanks to them for everything they have done.
If you have any other questions about this, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your support with this.
Best wishes,
Alison
