Dear Colleagues,

Strathclyde Doctoral School SharePoint site, launched on 1st October 2019, was set up following a wholescale review of PGR Processes and Systems. This review was initiated by Strathclyde Doctoral School and facilitated by Continuous Improvement (CI). The review focussed on designing clear and consistent institution-wide processes that positively support the postgraduate research journey.

The SharePoint site covers all three work streams, Recruitment & Marketing, Admissions, and Lifecycle and houses a wealth of information and outlines processes and procedures for all aspects of the PGR journey reflecting good practices already taking place in areas across the institution.

  1. Recruitment & Marketing

Information on how to keep Supervisor profiles up-to-date, how to add projects to the Postgraduate Research & PhD Opportunities database, how to market PhD and Research degrees and how to track any pre-application enquiries.

  1. Admissions

Information on the Admissions process from when an applicant begins an application to when they are eligible to register as a student.

  1. Lifecycle

Information on the lifecycle of a PGR student from the Induction to Award and Graduation. This part of the site is available to PGR students and has downloadable documents, including, Supervisory Checklist, Research Plan, Training and Development Plan, and Training Needs Analysis.

I would encourage all colleagues who are involved with PGR activities to visit the site and familiarise themselves with the guidance and templates. This site provides a valuable training and information resource for anyone who is involved with PGR, regardless of the length of time you have worked at Strathclyde. The benefits of the site include everything being in one place, information available by to guide you through all processes, step by step, and a resource that will help new members of staff.

We hope that by having this resource, we can make the small changes needed to create a co-ordinated and consistent PGR student experience with the potential to drive progress relating to student satisfaction and completion rates, alongside further driving our strategic ambitions as an internationally-leading, research intensive University.

As you know we have been developing our webpage and social media presence. We have had good feedback from those improvements - we hope that providing access to this important resource will also prove beneficial.

Many thanks in advance for your support with this.

Best wishes,

Eleanor
