The IoP's Bell Burnell Graduate Scholarship Fund (BBGSF) is open for
applications from students who wish to study for a PhD in Physics.
The fund aims to encourage greater diversity in Physics by supporting
students from groups which are currently under-represented (see fund
guide below for details).

Further information  about the fund and the application process can be
found at
https://www.iop.org/bellburnellfund

Eligibility criteria etc. can be found in the fund guide at
https://www.iop.org/sites/default/files/2020-09/Bell-Burnell-Graduate-Scholarship-Fund-guide-2020.pdf

The Department, as an Athena Swan award holder, is eligible to support
one scholarship application.

The fund provides 35K of PhD studentship costs (just under 50% of the
cost of a 3.5 year studentship with a home fee + stipend). The
department will use some of its allocation of SRSS funds to make a
complete studentship (3.5 years, home fee + stipend).

The application process is :
1. The candidate student first makes an application for admission to PhD
Physics here via pgr.strath.ac.uk .
Candidates must also submit the information described in section 1.4 of
the application guidance notes (attached) for internal assessment :
- a project abstract
- a CV
- a statement on /Background and need for a BBGSF grant/
- a /Personal statement /
This should be either uploaded with their PhD application or emailed to
pgstudies at phys.strath.ac.uk .

2. Applications received before *Thursday 17th December* will be
assessed internally and one will be selected to go forward from the
Department.
This assessment will be based primarily on how well the candidate
aligns to the eligibility criteria for the scheme and the candidate's
academic quality. Note that interviews may be held, depending on the
number of applicants (the student selection process for the BBGSF scheme
is part of the criteria considered by the Institute of Physics in the
national competition).

3. The selected applicant applies to the IoP by *22nd January 2021* at 5pm.

If you want any additional information, please get in touch.
