Internal Selection and Review Process - UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships Round 7

A new round of UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships (FLF) has been announced:
https://www.ukri.org/opportunity/future-leaders-fellowships-round-7/<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ukri.org%2Fopportunity%2Ffuture-leaders-fellowships-round-7%2F&data=05%7C01%7Cstefan.kuhr%40strath.ac.uk%7C77f42ba5920e41ac24e808da5ec3efc9%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637926492890831931%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=Ir%2F0YiDCe3hx61BeXXhjUA0EpdXhloWPaEz1Wj%2BMN4I%3D&reserved=0>

The scheme aims to support early career researchers with outstanding potential to tackle ambitious and challenging research and support your long-term career goals by undertaking a programme of skills development.

The FLF scheme is highly competitive and the number of applications which can be submitted by the University has been capped at 4 applications for this round. An internal selection and review process will therefore be in operation to support the highest quality applications going forward.

Candidate Eligibility

The definition of "early career" is open and there are no time bound criteria. Rather, applicants need to be clear why they should be considered an early career researcher:- this can include those changing field/focus; those moving from teaching to research posts; those moving from clinical to academic contracts; as well as those wishing to develop and lead their own research group for the first time. This scheme is ideally suited for those who are now ready to transition to leadership.

The Person Specification<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ukri.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2022%2F06%2FUKRI-140622-Funding-Opp-FutureLeadersFellowshipsRound7-GuidanceAcademicHostedApplicants.pdf&data=05%7C01%7Cstefan.kuhr%40strath.ac.uk%7C77f42ba5920e41ac24e808da5ec3efc9%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637926492890831931%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=hZZvnXwei7klbvNQ4O22thhmyf9PuhANKX8w1qE%2FjbY%3D&reserved=0> (Annex B - page 39) should be used to assess your suitability for the scheme. Colleagues on open-ended academic contracts are eligible to apply but should not yet have achieved 'leadership' in the area you are proposing to investigate. You would also be expected to relinquish the activities associated with your permanent role in order to free up your time for the Fellowship.

External candidates are also encouraged to apply with Strathclyde as their host institution and should follow the same candidate selection process as outlined below.

Previously unsuccessful FLF applicants are able to re-apply provided your proposal addresses the feedback from the FLF reviewers and the interview panel (where applicable) and should follow the same internal candidate selection process.

Internal Selection and Review Process
For consideration by the Institutional Selection Panel, the following documents should be sent to your Head of Department/ School by 1 August 2022 (please follow local arrangements as communicated by your Dept/School):
* 3-page Fellowship Outline (attached Pro-Forma to be completed)
* OR 2-page Case for Re-submission (for previously unsuccessful FLF candidates) - highlighting how close they came in the previous round, progress since initial submission, what issues were identified by the reviewers/panel and how they propose to address them
* AND 3-page C.V (attached CV and Outputs Template to be completed)

The Case for Support criteria (as outlined on p30-32 of the Guidance for Applicants<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ukri.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2022%2F06%2FUKRI-140622-Funding-Opp-FutureLeadersFellowshipsRound7-GuidanceAcademicHostedApplicants.pdf&data=05%7C01%7Cstefan.kuhr%40strath.ac.uk%7C77f42ba5920e41ac24e808da5ec3efc9%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637926492890831931%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=hZZvnXwei7klbvNQ4O22thhmyf9PuhANKX8w1qE%2FjbY%3D&reserved=0>), Person Specification<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ukri.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2022%2F06%2FUKRI-140622-Funding-Opp-FutureLeadersFellowshipsRound7-GuidanceAcademicHostedApplicants.pdf&data=05%7C01%7Cstefan.kuhr%40strath.ac.uk%7C77f42ba5920e41ac24e808da5ec3efc9%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637926492890831931%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=hZZvnXwei7klbvNQ4O22thhmyf9PuhANKX8w1qE%2FjbY%3D&reserved=0> (Annex B - page 39) and Assessment Criteria<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ukri.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2022%2F06%2FUKRI-140622-Funding-Opp-FutureLeadersFellowshipsRound7-AssessmentCriteria.pdf&data=05%7C01%7Cstefan.kuhr%40strath.ac.uk%7C77f42ba5920e41ac24e808da5ec3efc9%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637926492890831931%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=%2FIFjzQ%2BdMXqEjdarH2Ibs%2FSxbav16NrBu1xRgTfmSJk%3D&reserved=0> should be addressed as far as possible in the Pro-Forma/Case for Re-submission and CV.

Following Departmental/School and Faculty review, an Institutional Selection Panel consisting of the Associate Principal, Deputy Associate Principals (Research & KE) and colleagues from RKES will select the 4 applicants going forward to this scheme. Candidates will be informed of the outcome of the selection panel by the end August 2022.

A recorded Information Session will be available on the RKES Portal<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fstrath.sharepoint.com%2Fsites%2Frkes&data=05%7C01%7Cstefan.kuhr%40strath.ac.uk%7C77f42ba5920e41ac24e808da5ec3efc9%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637926492890831931%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=y5wbDm1ubgZlfD8sEZlDSzDekX54UA4hDiki1iwNo2I%3D&reserved=0> and a drop-in Q&A session will be held on Friday 8 July 2022, 12:00-13:00.

Best wishes
