Dear all,
Please see below from STFC. The 2022/23 STFC Ernest Rutherford Fellowship (ERF) scheme is running again this year, and the Department can put forward one candidate.
If you are interested in applying for one of these prestigious fellowships, or if you are supporting an external candidate in their application to be based in the Department, we request that interested candidates send me (g.mcconnell at strath.ac.uk<mailto:g.mcconnell at strath.ac.uk>) a candidate CV using the attached template and a one page outline of their research plan no later than 5pm on Tuesday 19th July for internal triage. We will operate a selection process based on the submitted documentation. We aim to complete this process by late July to give the successful candidate sufficient time to prepare and submit a full application to STFC by the deadline on 13th September 2022.
Thanks and regards,
Gail

Dear Head of Department
You will be aware the call for STFC Ernest Rutherford applications has gone live today, Friday 1 July 2022. You will find details of the 2022 ERF call on the UKRI funding finder webpage<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ukri.org%2Fopportunity%2Fernest-rutherford-fellowship-research-core-science-independently%2F&data=05%7C01%7Cmichaela.graham%40strath.ac.uk%7Cc424ab707934436096e808da5ffae13c%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637927828628931546%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=Toy8LZ6N64yYQLNqe0YDjdwTsSAhjkXBAzWNo2%2FTpTU%3D&reserved=0>.
When we issued the quota numbers this year we asked you to take into account Equal Opportunities requirements as part of your process. The ERF scheme is set up to fairly assess applications from all applicants regardless of their background. You have a critical role in ensuring that all potential applicants have a fair chance of being put forward for the scheme and are encouraged and supported through a transparent selection process based on ability and potential. The types of issues you might wish to consider are for example:-
* How was the ERF opportunity promoted internally and internationally?;
* How were applicants supported through the internal selection process?;
* What process was used to identify potential and final candidates?;
* What steps were taken to mitigate unconscious bias in the selection process and how diverse was the membership of any selection panel used in your process?;
* Support or consideration of flexible working including part-time working, career breaks and caring responsibilities and did you accommodate inclusion of candidates with different career paths;
STFC is conducting a light touch review of fellowships and we would be grateful if you could provide us with a statement detailing the inclusive process you used to select candidates for this call. This statement should also include a commentary on any barriers to implementing an inclusive selection process and any insights into why potentially suitable candidates might not apply.
This information will be used to contribute towards a review of STFC Fellowships and will not be used in any way in the assessment process.
Please email fellowships<mailto:fellowships at stfc.ukri.org> your department's statement by the call closing date of Tuesday 13 September 2022.
Many thanks
Susan
