Subject: FW: Research Integrity and Culture Week - 23rd to 27th January 2023
Dear All,
This is a reminder about the University's Research Integrity and Culture Week which is running next week (23rd to 27th January 2023), organised by RKES and OSDU. The University is expecting all staff conducting, leading or enabling research to engage with at least one event or activity during the Week.
Both research integrity and culture are high priorities for us - from how they support research quality and staff wellbeing to their translation in REF and research funder priorities. The events organised for next week provide opportunities to explore best practices, challenges and new developments around how we conduct and contribute to research.
Please see the attached programme of events which has links to the booking pages for each event.
In particular, I draw your attention to:
* A launch event led by Associate Principal Prof Tim Bedford<https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/Home/Course/6225>, with contributions from Faculty research leads, to introduce the key themes of the week - from what we mean when talking about Integrity and Culture to why they are important concepts.
* A sector-wide Panel event, opened by the Principal, with external speakers<https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/Home/Course/6245> from the UK Research Integrity Office, the UK Committee on Research Integrity, the Ethics Governance in Scottish Universities project, and the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), exploring future directions and priorities in relation to key aspects of research integrity and culture.
* An event aimed at fostering a culture of openness and inclusivity, led by Deputy Associate Principals<https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/Home/Course/6244>, with contributions from colleagues working on projects demonstrating best practice in inclusivity and openness.
There is also an associated RKES news item: Research Integrity and Culture Week: Why should you care?<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fstrath.sharepoint.com%2Fsites%2Frkes%2FSitePages%2FResearch-Integrity-and-Culture-Week--Why-should-I-care-.aspx&data=05%7C01%7Cstefan.kuhr%40strath.ac.uk%7C6194201996c84ca69df808daf8b0c78c%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C638095735411564689%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=UBv9U8CDCpy4hhq0Ria2Zbv3lUGkOPwPtEZxJHRnsI4%3D&reserved=0>

Subject: Research Integrity and Culture Week
Dear Colleagues,
Hopefully you will have seen the recent announcement of Strathclyde's Research Integrity and Culture Week which is running 23rd to 27th January 2023, organised by RKES and OSDU.
Both research integrity and culture are high priorities for us - from how they support research quality and staff wellbeing to their translation in REF and research funder priorities. The Research Integrity and Culture Week will thus be an important opportunity to sit down together as a community and explore best practices, challenges and new developments around how we conduct and contribute to research
The University is expecting all staff conducting, leading or enabling research to engage with at least one event or activity during the Week - I would encourage you all to make the most of this Week and participate in any sessions that may allow you to foster your understanding and contribute to conversations.
The full event programme has been made available here<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fstrath.sharepoint.com%2Fsites%2Frkes%2FSitePages%2FResearch-Integrity-and-Culture-Week.aspx&data=05%7C01%7Cstefan.kuhr%40strath.ac.uk%7C6194201996c84ca69df808daf8b0c78c%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C638095735411720957%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=gPgHevbIr3QduzfvaoZewEfzpb8uKpHlPTKZ1xxPNJI%3D&reserved=0>, but highlights will include:

* an event on Thursday (26th Jan), led by Deputy Associate Principals and focusing on fostering a culture of openness and inclusivity<https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/Home/Course/6244>, with case studies of best practice from Strathclyde colleagues.
In addition to these larger-scale events, Culture Café sessions<https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/Home/CoursesList?SearchTerm=culture+caf&SelectedProvider=&SelectedCategory=&Index=Filter> will be running for each Faculty to discuss local and systemic research culture more informally. Events for specific staff/student groups will also run throughout the week, including events for Research Staff<https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/Home/Course/6239>, Research Leads (HoD/S, DoR)<https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/Home/Course/6240> and PGR Supervisors and Line Managers<https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/Home/Course/6241>. Further resources will be shared through daily emails directly to staff to spotlight particular topics in research integrity and stimulate discussions amongst colleagues.
If you have any questions about the Week, please feel free to contact the Research Policy and Information Team in RKES<mailto:researchpolicy at strath.ac.uk>. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you at the events in January!
Best wishes,
Paul
