Dear PGR Team,

The university is now publicising the Global Research Scholarships on the website to try and encourage more, high-quality PGR applicants.

Please can you draw this to the attention of applicants, potential applicants, and colleagues within your department.

A few things to note:

*         Although the GRS awards could in principal be used for home, RUK or overseas students, the Faculty of Science has decided to target international candidates only noting that this of course now includes EU applicants.

*         Applications for a GRS award must be made using the form previously circulated (but attached again for convenience). This should be completed collaboratively by the prospective student and supervisor; then forwarded by the supervisor to their HoD for addition of supporting comments; then finally submitted to Faculty through the science-enquiries mailbox: science-enquiries at strath.ac.uk<mailto:science-enquiries at strath.ac.uk>

*         The application is a two-stage process. Each stage has a different deadline

Stage 1    31st March 2023           Deadline for submission of applications to departments. The applicant must also hold a conditional offer of a PhD place by this date.

Stage 2    17th April 2023              Deadline for submission of applications to Faculty. This deadline has been extended by two weeks from that originally advertised to allow time for applications received close to the end of March to be reviewed within departments and supporting statements added.

*         Departments can submit as many candidates as they wish (provided they all meet the eligibility criteria). There is no need to rank them since the Review Panel will independently assess all submissions received from across the Faculty, but HoD comments on strategic fit to the department are welcome in the HoD commentary section of the form.

We plan to convene the Review Panel as soon as possible after the internal submission deadline and inform successful candidates and supervisors by Friday 28th April
