Universities Scotland: Trusted Research and International Collaboration Webinar by CPNI and RCAT
Wednesday 8th March 10:00-12:00, Online, Microsoft Teams
The Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) and the Research Collaboration Advice Team (RCAT) will be giving a webinar on Trusted Research and International Collaboration. This webinar is hosted by Universities Scotland and chaired by Prof Tim Bedford (Associate Principal, Research and Innovation, University of Strathclyde).
CPNI<https://www.cpni.gov.uk/> provides protective security advice aimed at reducing vulnerability to a range of threats, such as terrorism, espionage, and sabotage. Their Trusted Research<https://www.cpni.gov.uk/trusted-research> campaign aims to secure the integrity of the system of international research collaboration and provide guidance to academia and industry alike on the protection of research. CPNI will explain the nature and breadth of the threat facing UK academia from hostile states, how they are working with the sector to guard against the loss or misuse of your research and how you can embed Trusted Research best practice and principles to protect and enable the UK’s open system of academic collaboration. For related background reading, we recommend the recent joint address<https://www.mi5.gov.uk/news/speech-by-mi5-and-fbi> by MI5 and FBI Heads in early July 2022.
RCAT<https://www.gov.uk/government/groups/research-collaboration-advice-team-rcat> provides research institutions with a first point of contact for official advice about national security risks linked to international research, supporting academics and university leaders to understand these risks, and to put in place appropriate and proportionate safeguards to support their collaborative activity. RCAT will explain their role promoting a greater understanding within the academic research community about the UK’s security policies and regulations and how they can offer tailored risk-management guidance to help researchers create and sustain successful, thriving international research partnerships.
The session will include presentations from CPNI and RCAT followed by a Q&A session.
We would be delighted for you to invite members involved in Research including Senior Academic Leaders including Heads of Schools and Departments, Research Offices, Legal Teams, Communication Teams, and anyone else within your institution to which this webinar will be relevant.
