Hi all,

I just want to re-iterate that it is important for our reputation and standing in these ranking that we provide contacts here. This should not take too long. Please can I ask everyone to provide at least 5 names + emails of either

  * former post-docs who worked in your team (who are likely to report something positive about us when asked)
  * other colleagues who you know are not too busy and are likely to respond

Gabrielle and I would truly appreciate a response by the end of tomorrow.

Many thanks for your support.

Stefan

Due to our working flexibility, I may send emails at a time that suits me to do so. Please be aware that there is no expectation for you to respond outside of your working hours.

Subject: [Academic] FW: Request for contacts for QS World Rankings 2025 - Deadline Monday 7 October

Hi everyone,

No one has sent me any names for the QS rankings yet.

Stefan has suggested giving me the names of post-docs who you've had in your group and who have now moved on from the University.

If you know where they are now based, please would you add them to the relevant attached excel document?

Many thanks,

Gabrielle

Subject: Request for contacts for QS World Rankings 2025 - Deadline Monday 7 October

Dear members of Academic Staff,

QS World University Rankings 2025

I am collating the annual update for the QS World University Rankings. Our position is based on scores from 10 indicators, including responses to an academic and employer survey, which make up 30% and 15% of our ranking position respectively.

To this end, please would you add the details of your new (or ones you haven't submitted before), key strategic, academic and industry partners on to the attached (working copy) spreadsheets bearing the following in mind:

* Provide both UK-based and international employer contacts. Each category of employer is given equal weighting, and so this could be a contact at a local school who employs our graduates, or a small business that likes to employ Strathclyde graduates - any person you think is likely to vote for us would be hugely helpful. A CEO of a large company is unlikely to have time to take part in a survey, but your local contact is more likely to have time and think of us when asked about universities. If the contacts you provide consent to the university transferring their data, QS will approach them to complete a survey to identify institutions they perceive to demonstrate academic excellence and/or producing relevant graduates.

The reputation surveys are our lowest scoring areas in the global league tables, and increases in scores can have a huge impact in overall ranking position, which can then improve our recruitment efforts. We want to provide QS with the details of people who we think will vote for Strathclyde, and that is the key thing that will help us to improve our scores. Please do remember that we are not allowed to solicit votes - we can only put their contact details forward in the hope that they will nominate us.

* In the academic survey, there is an 85% weighting for international contacts. This means we generally ask for international contacts to be returned to us. However, if you have a UK-based contact who you think would vote for Strathclyde, then do share their contact details as this is more useful than an international contact who won't vote for us.

  * The level of seniority of the contacts is not a consideration for QS. An early career researcher who votes for us is weighted in the same way as a professor, and so we would be grateful if you could bear this in mind when providing contacts - it is the number of votes that we are scored on, and not the level of seniority of the person, or the prestige of the organisation they work for.

As a reminder, I have attached a separate spreadsheet showing the names returned in the last 5 years. QS will contact a sample of the new names we supply with a survey in order to compile the league table at www.topuniversities.com<http://www.topuniversities.com/>.

Because of the data protection law, the deadline is extremely tight to allow Strategy and Policy time to gain consent from each contact before passing details on to QS. Please update the attached spreadsheet and return it to me by Monday 7th October. I will then collate the departmental response and return it to Strategy and Policy.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

I really appreciate your help with this,

Gabrielle
