Please see below for two new staff support policies from HR:
Dear all,
I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing to inform you about an important update to our employee support policies.
The University is pleased to announce the implementation of two new policies. Our Pregnancy and Baby Loss Policy will be launched Tuesday 15th October, to coincide with Baby Loss Awareness Week (October 9-15). To ensure that our entitlements for parental bereavement leave align, we will launch our Bereavement and Compassionate Leave Policy on Tuesday 22nd October.
New Pregnancy & Baby Loss Policy
Key Highlights
* This is a completely new policy for staff
* The policy offers up to 10 days paid Compassionate Leave for Pregnancy and Baby Loss if a colleague experiences a miscarriage or medical termination in the first 24 weeks of pregnancy
* Maternity and Maternity Support (paternity) leave and pay will still apply after 24 weeks for those that experience stillbirth, neonatal loss or termination for medical reasons. Colleagues will also receive 4 weeks' paid Parental Bereavement Leave in addition to any family leave entitlement.
New Bereavement & Compassionate Leave Policy
Key Changes and Highlights
* This policy is now a standalone policy.
* NEW: Up to 5 days paid compassionate leave for critical life events such as:
* Sudden critical illness or serious accident involving a partner/ dependant.
* Life changing/terminal diagnosis (given to you, or to a partner/ dependant).
* End-of-life care for a partner/ dependant.
* Any other unplanned major life event (for example, significant relationship breakdown/ separation, removal of children, breakdown of adoption placement, eviction/homelessness).
* IMPROVED: Parental Bereavement Leave will increase from 2 weeks to 4 weeks and this leave now applies to the death of a child at any age and not just 18 years or under
* This leave entitlement is in addition to any family leave that a colleague is on, for example maternity, maternity support (paternity) or shared parental leave.
To help line managers support colleagues who have experienced one of these painful life events, we have also developed manager guidance to accompany these policies. The policies and associated guidance will be available on our website (HR Policies and Procedures<https://www.strath.ac.uk/policies/hrpoliciesprocedures/>) when each of the policies launch - Pregnancy and Baby Loss from October 15thand Bereavement and Compassionate Leave from October 22nd. We are committed to supporting our employees through challenging times and believe that these changes reflect our dedication to fostering a compassionate and supportive work environment.
If you have any questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to contact the HR representative for Physics and the IOP, Gail Millar.
Have a lovely weekend when it comes,
Stephanie
