Hi All,

Please see below.

For those who don’t know this is for students to come and spend a year of their PhD here at Strathclyde, whilst remaining registered at their home institution abroad.

They pay normal international fees for that year and count towards your PGR targets but their status is ‘non-graduating student’ i.e. they have a separate programme code (since they’re going to graduate from wherever they are primarily registered).

I’ve had a couple of Nigerian split-site scholars and they’re usually quite good. Got a paper out of each at least!

Note that you have to demonstrate that you have a link with the overseas institute and will maintain contact with their home supervisors during the year – but that’s pretty easy nowadays with zoom etc.

Don’t hesitate to ask if you need any advice.

Kind regards,

Christine

Dear all

Please see the below announcement from the Commonwealth Scholarship team which includes an application link and deadline information for this year's 'Split-Site Scholarship' for students from low and middle income countries.

Grateful if you could please share with the PGR Directors and departmental colleagues. @Christopher<mailto:chris.white at strath.ac.uk> - I appreciate you're no longer in the ADR role and so please share if there is a more appropriate contact in the interim.

Kind regards

Gordon

Dear contact,

We are pleased to announce that applications for our Commonwealth Split-site PhD programme are now open.

These scholarships are for candidates from low and middle income Commonwealth countries, who are currently studying for a PhD in their home country, to conduct research at a university in the UK for 12 months. They enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK.

Full details and eligibility criteria for the scholarship are available on the following page of our website: https://cscuk.fcdo.gov.uk/scholarships/commonwealth-split-site-scholarships-for-low-and-middle-income-countries/<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fcscuk.fcdo.gov.uk%2fscholarships%2fcommonwealth-split-site-scholarships-for-low-and-middle-income-countries%2f&c=E,1,ChwaPO_-FDQXOr3hFeEWlnjHc-7jgD1H3RQW8k0uX8QkP77xeXw9aLRXece1YtTSEB68hFp2TCX80P1AHynLNhGD0dowD12Yc8V-R2cC9ck,&typo=1&ancr_add=1>.

Applications are through our new system, CSC Central, which can be accessed through the above page.

The closing date for applications is Monday 16 December at 16:00 GMT. Study will begin in the UK in September 2025.

We would be grateful if you could circulate this opportunity among staff at your institution who may be interested in supporting a candidate to apply.

With regards,

James
