The National Crime Agency (NCA) has issued an Amber Alert regarding 3D printed firearms, which SFC has been asked to share with Scotland’s university staff for awareness.

Please disseminate this to relevant staff in your organisation, and ask them to familiarise themselves with the content. Please do not forward this link or the email outside of your organisation.

This alert is intended to inform staff within a Scottish university setting that may have responsibility for students with an interest in and/or access to 3D printing technology. Whilst there are many legitimate uses for 3D printing technology, there are also opportunities to exploit this technology for illegal purposes. This alert provides an overview of 3D printed firearms, reinforces possible criminal implications if manufactured and provides guidance for staff to report concerns.

Please note: this information is not intended for general public dissemination and should not be included on public facing websites, external mailing lists, social media or other outlets routinely used by you to deliver information to the public without the prior and specific permission of the NCA. Please risk manage onward dissemination in a considered way. This email (if printed) should be disposed of by cross-cut shredder, pulping or incineration.
