Dear All,
It is a pleasure to announce a visit and talk of a colleague:

Prof. Simon Hooker
Talk title: Multi-pulse laser wakefield acceleration
Time: Tuesday 6th of May, 2pm-3pm
Room: SUPA room (JA 8.13)
Abstract:
"Laser-driven plasma accelerators can generate acceleration
gradients several orders of magnitude greater than possible with
conventional technologies. Laser-accelerated electron bunches with
particle energies of a few GeV have now been demonstrated by many
groups worldwide. Two immediate challenges are better control of the
processes by which electrons are injected into the laser-driven
wakefield, and reliable operation at pulse repetition rates greater
than a few Hz.
With these objectives in mind I will describe a scheme for controlling
electron injection into quasi-linear plasma wakefields, and will
discuss the possibility of driving plasma accelerators at kilohertz
repetition rates by using multiple driving laser pulses."

I asked him to add a few introductory slides on LWFA so it should be
interesting for a wider audience. Please feel free forward this
announcement to interested colleagues who may not be reached via the
silis at phys.strath.ac.uk and cnqo at phys.strath.ac.uk mailing lists.

Looking forward to seeing you there, thanks,

Bernhard
