Subject: this Wd 3pm colloquia by Eric Laenen on "The ubiquitous top quark"

Dear All,
Quick note about this week's colloquium by an international speaker!

speaker: Eric Laenen (Head of Nikhef theory group, Amsterdam)
title: The ubiquitous top quark

date: 25/2/15
time: 3pm-4pm, followed by doughnuts and coffee while discussing your next outreach event
place: Kelvin Building, room 222

Abstract:
Among the quarks, the top quark is rather special. It plays in fact
a leading role in many recent and upcoming LHC studies
that stress-test the Standard Model and search for "new physics".
I will explain what makes top special, and why it is still so popular
among particle physicists, 20 years after its discovery. I will then
review some recent
stress-tests and how experiment and theory work together
very well in this enterprise. I will conclude with a brief preview
of what the top quark might teach us in the upcoming LHC data run.
