  *   Innovative training networks bring together universities, research centres and companies from different countries in Europe and worldwide to train new generations of researchers.

Energy Innovation calls - Mexico

Mexico’s Ministry of Energy (SENER) invites bids for UK HEIs to contribute to the development of two new Centres for Energy Innovation which are to be established in Mexico in the areas of Carbon Capture, Use and Storage<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=8123fe1ab3&e=ea2f712f58> (£20m investment) and Innovation in Smart Grids<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=aac210c95b&e=ea2f712f58> (£18m investment).

The Samsung Global Research Outreach (GRO) programme

The Samsung Global Research Outreach<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=582608f0ae&e=ea2f712f58> (GRO) program is an annual call for proposals that invites the world's leading universities to propose innovative research ideas which will be evaluated for their novelty and alignment with Samsung's various research fields.

This year they are seeking proposals in 24 research areas<http://strath.us12.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=ea75823e59&e=ea2f712f58>.

Selected proposals will be financially sponsored for a one-year period, in amounts up to $100,000 (may be renewed for up to three years).

Closing date: 14 June 2016



Call for transnational working groups on Antimicrobial Resistance
The Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance JPIAMR is pleased to launch a rapid action call for leading scientists and experts in the field to establish Working Groups to identify key questions to be addressed or to identify potential solutions to overcome barriers to antibacterial resistance research studies.<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=059d33a0e4&e=ea2f712f58>

Only transnational Working Groups will be funded. To qualify for funding, each proposal must involve contributors from at least three participating countries.

EUROGIA2020 call
EUROGIA 2020 aims to foster multidisciplinary, innovative, R&D programmes to build and develop the future energy mix.

The current call for projects<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=03512117f1&e=ea2f712f58> addresses all innovative energy technologies that will, reduce the carbon footprint of energy production and use as well as develop new technologies for energy such as solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, energy efficiency, etc.

Deadline: 23 May 2016



ESRC-DFID Raising Learning Outcomes call 2016
The ESRC and DFID plan to launch the third call in their Raising Learning Outcomes research programme<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=5dddfd7c4a&e=ea2f712f58>. The focus of the 2016 call will be on the dynamic of accountability, asking questions about how this dynamic interacts with contextual factors and elements of the education system to enable or inhibit the raising of learning outcomes for all.

The geographical focus of research in this call will be on low-income countries plus a select group of other priority countries.

Trans-atlantic Platform - Digging Into Data Challenge
The T-AP Digging into Data Challenge<http://strath.us12.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=d99f877a4c&e=ea2f712f58>  is open to any project that addresses research questions in the humanities and/or social sciences by using techniques of large-scale digital data analysis and shows how these new techniques can lead to new theoretical insights

Europe-USA call on molecular plant sciences

The ERA-NET Coordinating Action in Plant Sciences (9 funding organisations) will issue a call for collaborative research projects<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=eff6461045&e=ea2f712f58> to meet the European and global demand for molecular plant science innovation with a long-term perspective.

  *   Food and Nutrition Security
  *   Non-food crops
  *   Adaptation to a changing climate
  *   Biotic/abiotic stresses

Applications in other areas of molecular plant science are welcomed where the research answers fundamental biological questions of relevance to the development of the European and Global Research Area in molecular plant science.

The will open on 23 June 2016.


Royal Society - International Exchanges

This scheme is for scientists in the UK who want to stimulate new collaborations with leading scientists<http://strath.us12.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=66e65abbdd&e=ea2f712f58> overseas through either a one-off visit or bilateral travel.

Value: £3-12,000

Deadline: 7 June 2016


UK-US Co-Funding
RCUK and the US National Science Foundation (NSF) have lead agency<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=7c42027815&e=ea2f712f58> agreements which can facilitate collaboration between UK and US researchers on:

  *   Economic and Social Research  (ESRC)
  *   Arts and Humanities Research  (AHRC)
  *   Biotech and Biological Science (BBSRC)
  *   Environmental Science, particularly Environmental Biology and Geosciences (NERC).

There are indications that a further lead agency agreement is to follow between the EPSRC and the NSF directorates for Engineering, Mathematical & Physical Sciences Computer and Information Science and Engineering.


UK- BRAZIL Co-Funding
The RCUK-FAPESP (Research Council for State of Sao Paulo) Memorandum of Understanding has been renewed for another 5 years. (It will run until Dec 2020).

The focus of the call is in Earth System Science and Global Environmental Change research.

New relationship with City University of New York (CUNY)

Gillian Small, Deputy Vice Principal of CUNY visited Strathclyde on 24 March. Vice Chancellor Small signed an MOU with Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal & Vice-Chancellor.

The MOU covers: nano-science, bio-nanotechnology; photonics; structural biology; sustainable cities; entrepreneurship and enterprise.

Two workshops focusing on bionano and photonics have been agreed with CUNY to launch the relationship (led by Prof. Duncan Graham, University of Strathclyde and Prof. Rein Ulijn, CUNY). The first was held in the TIC, April 14-15 and the second will be held in CUNY on 22nd June.
