Subject: Institute of Physics Outreach Event Festival of Physics

Dear all

The Institute of Physics in Scotland is running a 'Festival of Physics' outreach event on 4th and 5th November at George Watson's College, Edinburgh.

As part of the event, IOP Scotland are organising a '3 minute thesis' competition on the Saturday evening, 8-9pm. On behalf of the IOP Scotland Committee, I would like to invite all SUPA postgraduate students to participate in this exciting event!

The IOP has been running "Three Minute Thesis" competitions around the UK for a few years, and the winner of this Scottish final will be invited to go forward to represent IOP Scotland at the UK National Finals. The competition format is described briefly below, and more information can be found at https://threeminutethesis.uq.edu.au/resources/competition-rules. You can also find some example of previous UK participants' presentations at https://www.vitae.ac.uk/events/three-minute-thesis-competition.

If you would like to take part, please drop me an email as soon as possible, and no later than *Sunday 22nd October*, indicating the title of your talk. We are keen to have representation from across the country, so some funding may be available to cover the costs of reasonable travel expenses.

Best wishes

Martin

(Chair, IOP Scotland Education Committee)
