Leadership Group Breakout Sessions<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/143p0ktudf5xru4xfpp9cz?email=true&lang=en&a=1&p=57277918&t=31139365>

Last week, the University’s Leadership Group focused its collective efforts on our return to campus. Made up of the Executive Team, Vice and Associate Deans, Heads of Departments/Schools and Professional Services Directors, the members took part in break-out sessions looking at various aspects.

A summary of each groups' key points is below.

It is important for us to be clear that Phase 2 is not the stage at which we all return to campus. Phase 2 is when our laboratory research can restart – subject to physical distancing – while remote working remains the default position for most of us.

A protocol will be introduced by the Return and Resume Development Group to facilitate safe access for those staff who will, exceptionally, be coming on to campus to undertake essential preparations for Phase 3 during this phase.

It will be Phase 4 before all workplaces will be open, with public health measures in place. Even then, remote and flexible working will still be encouraged.

Sessions aimed at colleagues who are carers

[https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/v2files/shard1/85313/27/3df7868c2d8e1558b4c764.jpg]Carers' Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

Because of the unique circumstances we find ourselves in this year, we have opted to run events throughout June, and not over a single week as we normally do. We hope this will give our carer community better access to events and support on offer.

The events are aimed at helping our carers access support and information and also provide advice on keeping well themselves.

New Centre for Youth & Criminal Justice (CYCJ) research

Research from the Centre for Youth & Criminal Justice (CYCJ), published last week, shows that Scotland’s children and young people are feeling increasingly isolated in lockdown, as COVID-19 restrictions continue.

This evidence has been used to inform the Alternative Child Rights Impact Assessment about the coronavirus, commissioned by the Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland.

Adapting the COVID-19 situation

The University of Strathclyde’s summer Lifelong Learning programme is preparing to get underway, with online teaching amid the pandemic lockdown.

The University’s Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL) is holding its classes through online meeting platform Zoom and is now taking bookings before teaching starts next month.

A pilot programme to test the new approach proved successful earlier this year. Within 48 hours of the summer programme opening for booking, 650 registrations had already been made - more than at the same stage last year for face-to-face classes.
