Important COVID-19 reminders
Notifying the University of a positive test result
Our primary concern is the wellbeing of staff affected by COVID-19 and any colleagues they may have been in contact with. It is essential that anyone with symptoms isolates and does not attend campus or any other location associated with their work. If you are well and able to work from home, you are encouraged to do so.
You must submit a notification of your status via the online form<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/1clbmmka4z6xru4xfpp9cz/external?email=true&a=5&p=58570227&t=31139365> as soon as possible.
This applies if you have received a positive test, have been asked by the NHS to self-isolate or are displaying symptoms.
If you are unable to submit the notification yourself, your line manager must contact covidnotifications at strath.ac.uk<mailto:covidnotifications at strath.ac.uk> on your behalf.
Please note that the notification is required irrespective of whether you have been on campus recently.

COVID-19: tracking attendance
To support efforts to minimise the risk of transmission of COVID-19 on campus, it is important that we keep track of who is in the room for face-to-face teaching events.
As a result, we are using QR codes to monitor who is in attendance at all scheduled on-campus teaching events.

They have suggested that you use the following response:

Rock Choir's 'keeps Britain singing' sessions

Rock Choir, the UK’s leading contemporary award-winning choir experience, has been supporting Strathclyde's Wellbeing Week since 2016 (see Mandy pictured far right).
Currently they are holding free 'keep Britain singing' lunchtime sessions at 12pm every weekday – and for parents, on Wednesdays at 4pm there's a free session for children too.
Singers at all levels will enjoy this and no previous singing experience or ability to read music is required.

Young Enterprise Scotland (YES)
Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, has been appointed as an entrepreneurial ambassador by Young Enterprise Scotland (YES).
The leading enterprise education charity, which currently delivers programmes to over 1500 young people from primary school through to college, has enlisted the support of Sir Jim as well as Poonam Gupta, CEO of the award-winning family business PG Paper and Peter Proud, CEO and founder of tech rising star Forrit.
With a tenure of at least one year, the ambassadors will help connect the charity with business leaders, companies and trusts with a view to raising awareness of the YES enterprise programmes that are transforming the lives of young people by tapping into their entrepreneurial potential.

To transform understanding of the universe
University of Strathclyde researchers are partners in a project which will use cutting-edge quantum technologies to transform understanding of the universe and answer key questions on the nature of dark matter.
The international Quantum Interferometry (QI) collaboration aims to search for dark matter and for quantum aspects of space-time with quantum technologies.
The project will build four table-top experiments which will enable the exploration of new parameter spaces of interaction between photons and dark matter. It will also seek answers to a long-standing research question: how can gravity be united with the other fundamental forces?

Following a successful Network Innovation Competition fund bid to Ofgem, Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC), as part of the University of Strathclyde, will be part of a revolutionary design and trial of next generation digital substations.
This project, led by UK Power Networks, hopes to release 1.4GW of capacity across the UK – enough to power more than 700,000 homes – save consumers more than £750 million and to offset more than 19m tonnes of harmful CO2 emissions by 2050.

Currently, our coping skills are sorely tested as we simply cannot dodge all of life’s slings and arrows.
Val Bissland, a tutor for almost 30 years in the University’s Centre for Lifelong Learning, tells us that despite this, emerging insights from research suggest that we can build ways of surviving hard times more creatively.

The aim of this course is to help participants develop and improve their investigation skills with a specific focus on complaints handling.
This course is for members of staff involved in the investigation of complaints and is particularly aimed at individuals who have been nominated as Investigating Officers for Stage 2 complaints under the University's new Complaints Handling Procedure.

[https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/v2files/shard1/85313/62/5b789136710e1292878c88.jpg]Jennifer is the Executive Director of Inspiring Children’s Futures, and the founding Director of CELCIS (the Centre for Excellence for Children’s Care and Protection).
Since April 2020 she's been on secondment from CELCIS to lead IICF and establish a new Doctoral Research Centre to contribute the evidence we need to enable better data-driven policy making for the benefit of children’s wellbeing.
Jennifer, who grew up in Canada, tells us how an interest in global children’s rights from an early age and her early professional career in social work left her with a real sense of the need to address policy and system changes.
