*Subject:* Request - Climate Connect

Dear all

I hope this finds everyone well.

I’m contacting you regarding an opportunity for ECRs and PhD students to
get involved with the Climate Connect programme we are rolling out at
the Centre for Sustainable Development.

The full details are in the attached document however in summary we have
developed a network with a range of global universities around
sustainable development, and as part of this partnership we are leading
a programme for students called Climate Connect.

This is a small focussed programme which will run for 6 months involving:

- University of Strathclyde

- Peking University

- Waterloo University

- Stellenbosch University

- Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences

- KTH

Each University has an academic lead (that is me for Strathclyde) and
will be identifying a cohort of up to 10 UG students who will interact
with one another through a series of monthly workshops as outlined in
the attached (this will be done through StrathUnion). The concept is to
allow students from across the world to engage with one another on the
topic of climate change and sustainable development, and be able to
understand the pertinent challenges, concerns and opportunities from
each others perspectives.

*So this is where the ECR/PhD element comes in. *

Each institution will also identify 4 - 6 ECR/PhD students who will
support the cohort of UGs within their institution. This will involve:

- Meeting with them a couple of times per month to ensure they are
undertaking the tasks set and helping with any problems they may be having

- Helping to facilitate the discussions at the monthly meetings

*What’s in it for them I hear you ask?*

Well unfortunately there is no additional payment for being involved but
there are a number of benefits…..

- they will be trained to be a facilitator of the Climate Fresk online
climate game (https://climatefresk.org
<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fclimatefresk.org%2F&data=04%7C01%7Cg.r.m.robb%40strath.ac.uk%7C242430668ebc4635ad6708d96e0390c5%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637661783855551235%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=2r2T1QoWkGnNU%2Bwo1YXTiNJRMJ9fYDVmZ8gxfY6BAPU%3D&reserved=0>)

- they will have the opportunity to meet with your counterparts at
institutions across the world and build your networks for future plans

- they will have an opportunity to meet with other researchers from
different faculties in UoS

- it’ll be a great (and hopefully fun) experience!

*So what is the ask?*

- Could you please help us with circulating this request to your
relative groups to gauge interest on being involved?

- Ideally we are looking to have representation from across all 4
faculties in the group to maintain the interdisciplinary perspective

I hope that all makes sense and apologies for the long message!

If you can let me know by return if this is something you can help to
support and if you need further details/information from me then I’d be
happy to oblige.

Best wishes

Tracy
